In a high ceilinged great sounding room I'd try the Coles. Thanks to you all. Also a pair of Beyers would be less expensive thereby allocating more $ for something else and the 160 pair will come in handy on lots of other stuff - guitars, piano, percussion. Though the Coles 4038 and Beyer M160/M130 have somewhat supplanted the older RCA units as current workhorses, most engineers would gladly use a good 44BS/77DX/KU3A for the appropriate recording … Both are superb mics. The are quite dark, but take a additive high shelving EQ very nicely. Royer R121 (front) The Royer gave a cool, classy and fairly coloured sound, the mid-range boost showing its presence and a touch of poke bringing out the snare with a lot of punch.
