I originally got a powered external USB hub which solved My Samson C01U problem for a few years. Earlier versions of Windows had a way to boost the recording input, as seen in the image below. Right-click the Sound icon in the System Tray and select Open Sound Settings. Under Input, ensure that the correct microphone is selected, then click on Device properties. Windows 10 has an Issue with many USB Microphones that can cause them to be Really Quiet. I know that I can change the levels in Windows Sound Panel "Microphone Properties" but even if I set it to 100% (in windows) I still have to get extremely close to get a good recording. I'm using a regular 1/4" stereo jack microphone, with a 1/4" -> 1/8" adapter. Uninstall and Reset Skype kind of IM and voice calling software. And this is where the Windows 10 audio issue is exposed and fixed. For one, I don't have sound recording as a hobby or job and I don't have windows 7 and I don't have USB mic. Microphone in my headset is not picking up my voice when connected to PC but it works fine on my Phone. My microphone is picking up the computer sound, Microphone connected to PC through microphone port but does not input sound. Recently I had to format and reinstall Windows - but that did not fix it for me. Post Which is okay; I just need confirmation of that from someone who has the credentials to say so.
